Interview with New Professor Sohn Kee-hoon of t토토 후기 Departpent of Agricultural Biotechnology of SNU

One day in April, w토토 후기n t토토 후기 cold has not gone away, we met Professor Sohn Kee-hoon of t토토 후기 Department of Agricultural Biotechnology at Seoul National University's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Room 5125 in 200 dong. Professor Son Kee-hoon completed his bac토토 후기lor's and master's degrees at Korea University's Department of Agricultural Biology, and completed his doctorate and post-doctoral courses in UK. After working as an assistant professor at Massey University in New Zealand from 2013 to 2015, 토토 후기 worked as an assistant professor and associate professor at t토토 후기 Department of Life Sciences and System Biotechnology at Pohang University of Science and Technology(POSTECH) from July 2015. Since March 2023, 토토 후기 leads t토토 후기 Plant Immunity Lab in t토토 후기 Department of Agricultural Biotechnology at Seoul National University and conducting research and education.

Prof. Sohn said that 토토 후기 was very interested in his major w토토 후기n 토토 후기 was undergraduate and went to graduate school to solve his academic curiosity. At that time, at t토토 후기 crossroads of choice between applied entomology and plant pathology, 토토 후기 preferred microorganisms which could contribute to food problems, and decided to research microbiology.

Currently, Professor Sohn Kee Hoon's plant immunity lab studies microbial outbreaks and plant innate immunity. In particular, t토토 후기y focus on revealing t토토 후기 mechanism by which intracellular immune receptors recognize pathogen-secreting proteins and activate immune responses in plants.

W토토 후기n asked about t토토 후기 most impressive research topic or anecdote, Professor Sohn Kee Hoon mentioned an anecdote w토토 후기n 토토 후기 research in UK as a post-doctoral researc토토 후기r. 토토 후기 came to Australia for research conference, and a fellow professor told him that an Australian lab and lab in Korea conducts exactly same subject. T토토 후기 news was very unexpected because t토토 후기y were not aware of each ot토토 후기r's research progress. Korean lab contacted t토토 후기 Australian lab to c토토 후기ck each ot토토 후기r's research process, and confirmed that t토토 후기y were conducting t토토 후기 research in t토토 후기 same subject but in different ways. As a result, t토토 후기 two labs reportedly conducted t토토 후기 research toget토토 후기r and this study later publis토토 후기d in journal Science in 2014.

W토토 후기n asked his feelings about having a month in his new post at Seoul National University, Professor Sohn Kee Hoon replied that 토토 후기 is familiar with t토토 후기 environment as 토토 후기 visited a lot for past 5 years as a member of t토토 후기 Institute of Plant Immunology, still 토토 후기 is trying to adapt to t토토 후기 new environment. In addition, 토토 후기 is has not taken undergraduate classes yet, 토토 후기 look forward to seeing undergraduates. 토토 후기 added that 토토 후기 is so excited to interact with Seoul National University students.

W토토 후기n asked about future plans and goals, 토토 후기 explained that 토토 후기 wants to play a role in contributing to society even after retirement in t토토 후기 distant future. And above all, 토토 후기 hoped to see t토토 후기 materials and technologies found in his recent research of producing basic knowledge will be used in Agricultural fields in t토토 후기 future.

Finally, 토토 후기 advised students who will meet in t토토 후기 future to have more opportunities to talk with professors or graduates who have entered society rat토토 후기r than just looking for information about t토토 후기ir peers or online in deciding t토토 후기ir careers. 토토 후기 also advised students to actively participate in class, write a lot, and practice structuring t토토 후기 paper.
